Hey EM Writing Team!

I put this page together to walk you through some basic processes to publish your content and stay consistent with the format of our other posts.  To get started, please watch this video where I walk you though how to create a new post and some key formatting tips:

Here’s a summary of some of the key items to keep in mind when you post each month:

  • Please have your post done via “Save Draft” one week before your scheduled day each month.  After you save as a draft, our Editor Bethany Riechmann will review it and schedule it to publish at 6:00 a.m. Central on your publication date.
  • Most posts should be between 500-1,000 words in length.
  • The title of your post is very important – use a headline that will make readers curious to click, read and share!
  • After you write in the title, select your category from the sidebar and click Save Draft.
  • The best photos will be catchy and relevant to the post topic…if you want maximum sharability, please use picmonkey.com to add some text to your photo before uploading it to your post.  Make sure it is 300px in width.  If appropriate, credit your photo at the end of the post with a small link.
  • After you have your text in place, add your photo by clicking the “Add Media” button.  Align your photo to the right and use the post title as the name, Alt name and description.  If necessary, add a 10px margin on the left side.  Then go to the Featured Image in the sidebar, click Set Featured Image and select the same image to use here.
  • Use headings to break up your text.  All headings in the post should be Heading 3.
  • Please try to link to at least two past Engaged Marriage articles that are relevant to your post.  You can use the search box in the sidebar of the site to find good ones. Feel free to link back to your own site where it fits as well!
  • At the end of your post, it really helps to ask the reader a question and encourage them to leave a comment to answer.  Be sure to keep an eye out for comments and hop in to respond to build a connection.
  • When you’re done writing, scroll down to the All In One SEO section and add in your title, a brief description that uses the keywords you’d like people to find the post with, and add in those keywords in that section as well.  This will really help your post get found in the search engines.
  • Be sure the Author box below shows your name as well (it should by default since you’re logged in).
  • After your post is published, be sure to share it on all your social media networks to get the word out.  You have awesome things to say, and we need to make sure as many people as possible see them – you never know which post will catch fire and go viral.  This post has over 250,000 pins on Pinterest!

Thank you so much for being part of our awesome writing team.  If you have any questions, feel free to email me!
