Round-Up of Interesting Reads #8: Black Friday Edition
I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving and didn’t go completely broke during today’s shopping sprees. We enjoyed a nice, local holiday with visits to each of parents and plenty of good food and great company. I spent Black Friday hanging out with the kids, while Bethany and her Mom “enjoyed” their annual shopping spree that began before the sun even chose to rise this morning. All in all, it’s been a great couple of days to mostly relax and enjoy family.
I will have a big announcement about Engaged Marriage coming the middle of next week, and I hope to write a few more posts this weekend in between several birthday celebrations (including Bethany’s). In the meantime, enjoy this installment of the Round-Up, which is topped off with a clip from my favorite show on television: The Office!
- Nominate Marriage Blogs for a “Top Ten” List of 2009. Stu at The Marry Blogger is currently taken nominations and votes to compile a top ten list of blogs about marriage. If you have not already done so, I’d really appreciate it if you clicked this link and took a minute to leave a kind word for Engaged Marriage (or another favorite marriage blog if you prefer).
Round-Up of Interesting Reads #7
Among the other great information you have provided so far through the Help Engaged Marriage Grow Up the Right Way survey was some insight into how the Link Round-Up posts are being received. Well, maybe insight isn’t the right word…the number of people who said they wanted more of these posts was almost equal to the number who said they wanted less!
So, for now, I will continue to share my favorite reads from around the web. But the schedule for these posts will not necessarily be weekly. This should provide plenty of time for me to write about the topics that everyone said they enjoy, while still pointing the way to other great resources available out on the World Wide Web.
So, without further ado!
- Improve Your Marriage: 50 Simple Acts of Love. Jeff at My Super-Charged Life has assembled an awesome list of ways to show your spouse how much you care for them. While you are at his site, please do me a favor and read the post announcing an Ipod giveaway in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Weekly Round-Up of Interesting Reads #6
This week’s edition of the weekly round-up features a few great sites that I just discovered over the past several days, along with some fantastic articles from my regular reading list. And there is even a bit of harmless self-promotion. From marriage preparation to the difficulties of parenting, enjoy this week’s Interesting Reads!
- Things to Consider Before Getting Married. The title from this awesome post from Dumb Little Man says it all. Based on our experiences as Pre-Cana instructors, I have to give this list high marks!
- 7 Awesome Ways to Find Your Creative Inspiration. Wow, the author of this article must be a genius, I mean seriously how great is this post? OK, so I wrote it. But I am proud of it, and I totally love the My Super-Charged Life blog, and I am thrilled to have my writing featured there. Check out this site to get the best from your life.
- Enjoy Frugal Entertainment Without Breaking the Bank. The Enemy of Debt blog is awesome! The author is a fellow Dave Ramsey fan with a lot of passion for personal finance. This post provides a lot of great ideas for family fun, and it caught my eye since I had a related post recently on Family Things to Do on a Rainy Sunday.
Weekly Round-Up of Interesting Reads #5
It is time once again to highlight some great articles I have read on the World Wide Web this week. This edition includes some family/marriage sites, some advice on reducing stress and some sound financial advice. And, as always, we will top things off with a cool picture. Enjoy!
- 31 Simply Family Pleasures and Why They’re All that Matter. A site called Zen Family Habits (a spin-off of the popular Zen Habits) recently launched, and I am impressed! This article is an example of the cool and useful content that is provided there.
- 10 Ways to Reduce Stress Without Spending a Dime. I love the Dumb Little Man site, and this article lives up their high standard. I am a big believer in minimizing stress in life, and this post provides some practical advice toward that end.
- Finally Out of Debt? Here’s How to Stay Out. Any regular readers of Engaged Marriage know that I am a big believer in a debt-free lifestyle. This great post on The Wisdom Journal gives some practical advice for staying out of debt after you reach that milestone.
Weekly Round-Up of Interesting Reads #4
Well after missing a week due to illness (bad) and our marriage retreat weekend (very good), the weekly installment of links to great reads I’ve found on the World Wide Web is back. As usual, some relate to marriage and some don’t, but all are excellent resources that I think you will enjoy checking out. Here they are!
- Focus on Your Personal Strengths, Not Correcting All the Weaknesses. I was thrilled to see Engaged Marriage featured on the Dumb Little Man blog this week. This is a cool site covering a wide range of topics designed to help you have a better life. And this post does just that.
- Bye Bye Birth Control. When I posted about Natural Family Planning earlier this week, it quickly became the most popular post on the site so I know there is an interest in this subject. I also know that many of us are not motivated (purely) by religious convictions. When I found this post on the Always A Northerner blog, I knew I had to share her story of exploring NFP for practical reasons. And I also knew I had found a great new blog to follow!
